Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) Emissions
Nitrogen Oxides are a precursor to the formation of ground level ozone and acid rain. Nitrogen oxides form when fuel is burned at high temperatures. The primary man-made sources of NOx result from motor vehicles, electric utilities, and other industrial, commercial, and residential sources that burn fossil fuels.
Allegheny Energy has reduced its NOx emissions during the ozone season (May - September), and will be making additional reductions between now and 2010.
